Local environmental NGO Wildlife Rescue Team Malta took to social media to thank a group of Luqa residents who helped save a group of hedgehogs.

Said residents had called the eNGO after noticing that a community of hedgehogs was living in a field undergoing development.

“Thanks to their call to the Wildlife Rescue Section, volunteers of Nature Trust Malta went on site and installed the first traps to catch and relocate the hedgehogs,” the organisation wrote.

Unfortunately, these traps were stolen soon after they were set.

“However, thanks to the determination of the volunteers and the residents, new traps were set,” Wildlife Rescue Team Malta noted.

“The residents were keeping an eye on the traps and called us every time a hedgehog went in them. In total, we managed to relocate nine healthy adult hedgehogs,” it continued.

The eNGO went on to thank the residents that helped save the hedgehogs and the construction workers “who also gave a helping hand in the operations”.

Thank you for saving the hedgehogs!
