A retaining wall in the upper part of Rabat's Saqajja Hill has collapsed following yesterday's storm, causing the street to be closed for traffic.

Architects on site are currently inspecting the damage, with the intention of launching emergency repairs as soon as possible.

A post on Infrastructure Malta's Facebook page alerted the public to the road closure and also gave instructions to bypass the area: "Follow diversion signs to nearby alternative routes. Access to Mdina and Il-Kbira Street, towards the centre of Rabat, will remain open."

It has not yet been indicated when the roadworks will start or when the street is expected to reopen: "To ensure public safety, this part of Saqqajja Hill, towards Nikola Saura Street and Gorg Borg Olivier Street, will be closed until further notice," the post read.
