As announced in the past months, Maltese icon Freddie Portelli is becoming a musical! Yup, it’s true! The musical based on the Maltese singer’s life and music will premiere at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta on 9^th August this year. Penned by comedian Malcom Galea and directed by the established Sean Buhagiar, Il-Kbir Ghadu Gej is expected to be the hit of the summer.

Just last week, part of the stellar cast was announced, which includes the likes of Kevin Borg, who will be the playing the lead role Il-Kredu, and will be joined by Malta’s former child star Marilena as the young rocker Georgette.

Davide Tucci will take on the role of Toni Taghna, the hottest Toni on the island (ovja!) after his recent on-screen success with Limestone Cowboy, and after many pantos and Bla Kondixin characters, Luke Dalli returns to the stage as Il-Bum.

And the extensive cast are gearing up for rehearsals for this performance in the best way possible. The cast shot different scenes lipsyncing to the musical main theme, also called Il-Kbir Ghadu Gej.

The hilarious video is already raking in hundreds of reactions and we can’t help but be excited about what this incredible musical will bring to the table this summer. It seems like a heck of a lot of banter, laughter and fun is what we can expect!

Paying homage to the iconic singer’s discography, Il-Kbir Ghadu Gej is jam-packed with Maltese classics included Viva Malta, Hallini, Ghal Dejjem, Xewqat Sbieh and the current single of the same name as the musical.
