WATCH: Sand covers the STREET in Ghadira as strong winds batter the Maltese Islands
Bringing the beach to you on the first day of spring!

It seems the forecasters were right – the Maltese Islands have welcomed the start of spring in, well, quite the grey way. And it’ll go on for a while too… the islands are set to be battered by strong winds and stormy conditions throughout the rest of the week.

Following on the heels of one of Malta’s most epic storms a few weeks ago (which brought a flurry of fish being thrown out of the water in Xemxija), it appears we’re in for a few more unusual sights!

A video uploaded this morning shows how, in Ghadira, commuters heading to work took an unplanned trip to the beach, as the easterly winds deposited huge amounts of sand from the bay onto the street. In some areas, the sand was so high that cars couldn’t drive through!

Watch the video here:

And while the sand in Ghadira is being removed, the MET Office continues to forecast strong winds which will likely reach Gale Force at times, so be mindful on those streets people!
