WATCH: Archive footage shows Malta’s FABULOUS entry for Miss Universe 1972
Work it girl!

Sarah Micallef

Every now and then, you luck out and come across something that is absolute GOLD. And this archive footage, showing the contestants of the very fabulous 1972 edition of Miss Universe, is all that and then some.

And almost two minutes into the clip, our interest was well and truly piqued, as Malta’s entry, Doris Abdilla, walks up to introduce herself.

Dressed to the nines in a red and white satin gown complete with chunky white platforms – in what we assume is a nod to the Maltese flag – Doris finished her look with red lipstick and a glamorous bouffant hairstyle. Work it girl!

Held on 29th July 1972 in Puerto Rico, Miss Universe that year was won by Australian Kerry Anne Wells, but well, call us biased, we’re a little in love with our Miss Malta!
