The sailors even spent Christmas on board!

The naval ship USS Arlington is currently docked at Malta’s Grand Harbour in Valletta and holds a piece of American history that will never be forgotten.

The USS Arlington is one of three naval ships that were built to commemorate the almost 3,000 lives lost during the 9/11 attacks. On board the ship, one finds records of the attacks as well as the retaliation by the United States on Osama Bin Laden who led Al Qaeda to carry out the attack on the Twin Towers back in 2001.

The museum on board also includes remains from the Pentagon, which together with the Twin Towers was a target of the attack. There is also a plaque to commemorate the American military operation in Pakistan back in 2011 in which Osama Bin Laden was killed, 10 years after the initial attack.

Currently, there are 400 sailors and 700 marines on board the USS Arlington that has docked in Malta for a few days’ rest before continuing their Mediterranean mission, together with USS Kearsarge and USS Fort McHenry.

Godspeed, sailors!
