There’s an 80 per cent chance of this happening.
August might be on track to bring about some really hot weather, but as it turns out, there’s a huge chance that a storm will hit the islands during the highly anticipated Santa Maria festa on 15th August.
Local Facebook weather page Aggornament tat-temp reported that “an African anti-cyclone in the Mediterranean will collapse in August due to cold currents forming in the areas towards the South-West and North-West of Malta.”
Thanks to these cold currents, expected to arrive in the Mediterranean towards 14th and 15th August, thunderstorms are set to form around the Maltese islands. Aggornament tat-temp predicts that Tunisia and Sicily will be affected by this as well.
The page noted that there is an 80 per cent chance of the above prevailing.
“There are two possible scenarios,” Aggornament tat-temp added, “the African anti-cyclone loses intensity and the Maltese islands are hit by thunderstorms on 14th, 15th, and / or 16th August” or “the African anti-cyclone keeps the storm from entering the central Mediterranean.”
The latter would mean that the Maltese islands would be spared some very bad weather.
Looks like our festa plans might be ruined!
