TLC loading! Xewkija’s 18th century windmill gets new sails
This means the restoration project is nearly complete!

Some great news for Xewkija’s 18th century windmill! The gorgeous and historic landmark’s restoration project is nearly finished, as sails were lifted into position just this morning.

The windmill, commissioned by Grand Master Perellos, is the oldest surviving windmill on Malta’s sister isle and is the only windmill with an octagonal base that supports its tower.

The restoration project has been going on for quite some time, which saw the replacement of its concrete ceiling with traditional stone beans, a good cleaning of the stones, and the rebuilding of the mill’s mechanism, too!

The project also saw the creation of a little pjazza around this Grade 1 scheduled building, along with the installation of public convenience facilities close by.

We can’t wait to see the final result!
