Throwback! Old newspaper clipping shows how one of Haz-Zabbar’s roundabouts used to look like back in the 1950s
A bygone era!

Emma Galea

An old newspaper clipping shared by Lydia Vella shows a photo of the roundabout between Zejtun, Fgura and Haz-Zabbar that was taken in the year 1956.

It shows a vastly different roundabout surrounded completely by fields with an arch right in the middle.

The clipping states that photo of the then new roundabout, build around the Hompesch door, was taken in Triq Paola, Zabbar.

The roundabout featured in the photo still exists today alongside the arch right in the middle but the infrastructure around it is completely different.

Everyone soon flooded the comment section with a sweet sense of nostalgia of Malta’s landscape and its surroundings during the 1950’s and 1960’s.
