According to the latest Eurostat figures, the Maltese spend a significant chunk of their income on eating out and hotel stays, amounting to a fifth of what local families actually spend. Well, you can’t really blame us - we love our food!

And other Europeans seem to love stuffing their faces too! Eurostat data reported that Cyprus and Spain were the closest biggest spenders in the two categories, followed by Greece and Ireland. It was reported that Maltese families spend 12 per cent of their income on food and beverages, higher than the EU average of 8.8 per cent!
