Safety first! Lifeguard and First Aid services on Malta & Gozo beaches launched for summer 2020
Safety first! The Tourism Minister, Julia Farrugia Portelli has officially launched the lifeguard service for beaches in Malta, Gozo and Comino for the summer 2020 period. The service will kick off this weekend and will be in place until 30th September.
Malta has 12 beaches with this service, Gozo has five, and there are two in Comino. Malta beaches include: Gnejna, Ghajn Tuffieha, Golden Sands, l-Ghadira, Bugibba Bay, Qawra Point, St George’s Bay and Balluta Bay in St Julian’s, Fond Għadir in Sliema, il-Fajtata in Marsaskala and Pretty Bay u St George’s Bay in Birzebbuga.
Those beaches in Gozo with the lifeguard service include Ramla l-Hamra, Marsalforn, Xlendi Bay, Mgarr ix-Xini and Hondoq ir-Rummien, while those in Comino include Blue Lagoon and Santa Marija Bay.
The ministry also announced that apart from the lifeguard service, a First Aid Mobile Clinic Service will be offered at Wied iz-Zurrieq and Ghar Lapsi, run by the Malta Red Cross. The service will also include a number of rescue vans with back-up lifeguards and a hydro-ambulance. It also includes the use of five jet skis: three for Malta, and one each for Gozo and Comino. These jet skis will be stationed at Ghadira, Golden Bay and Bugibba in Malta, at Marsalforn in Gozo and at Blue Lagoon in Comino.
“Every person on beaches – Maltese, Gozitan and tourist – will have their minds at rest while enjoying their time at these beaches,” Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli said, noting that this is another positive turn after the upheaval COVID-19 caused.
