Prof. Charmaine Gauci has become a figurehead of hope and strength for many in these trying times, but following news of Malta's first two Covid-19 deaths, Malta’s Superintendent of Public Health looked visibly drawn as she donned black for today’s press conference.

“It is with great sorrow that I come here and share such sad news with you,” she said, extending her condolences to the mourning families.

Calling for continued cooperation in these challenging times, Prof. Gauci went on to warn the public to forgo family gatherings and celebrations this Easter weekend. "The only way we can protect vulnerable people is if you stay inside," she warned.
