It has just been announced that local photographer and festa enthusiast Mario Mintoff, 58, has passed away after falling from a ladder at 9pm in Valletta’s Republic Street on Monday. Police have reportedly noted that Mario was removing feast decorations when for some reason he fell.

Mario was taken to hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries in recent hours. To honour their friend and neighbour, the Valletta community is sharing heartfelt tributes to their fallen fellow. “San Pawl welcomes this gentleman of a volunteer who gave his life while offering his time to the community,” says Ghaqda tal-Pawlini, A.D. 1970 – Valletta on Facebook, saying they’ll be praying for the family.

“The Festa Madonna tal-Karmnu Association offers its condolences to the Augustinian Community after losing dear Mario Mintoff.  We are by your side during this difficult time. Another loss for Valletta,” Festa Madonna Tal-Karmnu Valletta said on Facebook.

Parrocca San Pawl Nawfragu, Valletta also offered their condolences on Facebook. “The parish community Pawlina expresses its sadness at the loss of Mr Mario Mintoff and offers its condolences to his family and the Valletta Augustinian community. May he rest in peace.”
