Now that flights and catamarans are back in operation, will cruises be next?
Are you missing your summer cruise this year?

As Malta's travel ban is partially lifted and the first commercial flights and catamaran trips to and from the island depart and land, the focus now shifts to another holiday option favoured by many locals: cruises.

While there is nothing official as yet, hopes are high that cruiseliners will once again grace the Grand Harbour come August.

In a TVM interview, CEO of Valletta Cruise Port Stephen Xuereb said requests for berthing had already been received and health and safety protocols are currently being prepared and will be presented to the health authorities for approval.

Among the changes we can expect to see are a reduced number in passengers - ships may now possibly operate at 80% capacity to keep in line with social distancing guidelines as well as keeping a number of cabins empty in case the isolation or quarantine of passengers is required.

If the round-the-clock buffets were your favourite part of the experience, then we're sorry to let you know that these have also been scrapped in line with protocols.

The usual routes may also face some changes as some countries have not yet opened their borders to international travellers.

Will you take your yearly cruise this year if the situation permits?
