Malta’s passport has ranked in a top spot among the most powerful passports for 2021. According to Henley & Partners Passport Index, Malta ranks in 8th place out of all the world’s passports.
The Henley Passport Index “is the original ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information, and enhanced by ongoing research by the Henley & Partners Research Department,” their website reads.
According to the Index, with a Maltese passport, one can travel to 184 destinations with visa-free access. Last year, Malta also ranked in 8th place. The highest place it has ever climbed to was 7th in both 2018 and 2019. The lowest place it’s ever ranked was 15th in 2010. Other countries that are also in 8th place alongside Malta for 2021 are Greece, Czech Republic and Australia.
Japan claims the top spot with an access of 191 destinations, followed closely in second place by Singapore (190 destinations), and South Korea and Germany in third place (189 destinations).
