Malta’s oldest pizzeria has closed down! Here are 5 reasons the Maltese loved Ir-Rokna
Say it ain't so...

As you may have heard, Ir-Rokna, Malta’s oldest pizzeria (and a favourite family restaurant) served its delicious pizza for the last time yesterday night, after a solid 45 years of service. So sad! Andre Camilleri, former manager at ir-Rokna, broke the news over the weekend in a heartfelt Facebook post, and quite frankly, we're #shook.

As the island mourns the loss of the iconic eatery, comments are pouring in about the fantastic place. One Facebook user was so upset about the whole affair that she described it as “a horrendous start to 2019.” We feel your pain, hon. As a tribute to Ir-Rokna, here are 5 reasons why locals absolutely adored the pizzeria.

1. The pizzas were iconic

Just look at them. I’m drooling... hard. The locals will miss this place.

2. It was in the heart of Paceville

Bang in the middle of Malta’s party village, it was the perfect location to stuff your face before heading out for a night of dancing and drinking. Fej ħa mmorru issa?

3. The ideal family gathering spot

Birthday celebration, anniversary, or a regular Sunday lunch. Ir-Rokna was the place to have a relaxed family meal, thanks to the delicious dishes available on their menu. (Pulled Pork Pizza, I’m talking about you).

4. And the perfect date night dinner

Couples have lost a great date night spot. Ir-Rokna was great to spend the evening with your significant other sipping on a glass (or four) of wine and chatting for hours over the fantastic pizzas.

5. The service was second to none

Service with a smile, impeccable in-house and delivery experiences, you name it. Ir-Rokna exuded hospitality and its service was top notch... something we’ll definitely miss!
