Italy has recorded its highest amount of deaths in 24 hours: 993, despite a decreasing trend in infection rates.

Malta’s neighbouring country had hit a similar number (969) on 27th March when the Italian nation went into lockdown after becoming the first European country to record virus cases.

Italy has also announced travel restrictions or the holiday season across the country designed to curb the spread of the virus. Internal travel between regions will be allowed between 21st December and 6th January, with people having to remain in their towns on 25th and 26th December and 1st January.
