Local model & nature lover saves chameleon from the street & makes appeal to drivers
“Drive carefully when passing through fields/agricultural areas”

What some may not know about local model and Miss Universe Malta contestant Madeleine Baldacchino is that she’s also a biology student and animal lover who regularly posts about different animal and insect species to her 128k followers on Instagram.

Taking to social media yesterday, the stunning redhead shared a sweet moment in which she encountered a chameleon in the middle of a country road and stopped to make sure it crossed unharmed.

“These lovely animals are one of our very own natural pest control managers as they eat many insects that are often regarded as 'pests' such as grasshoppers, flies, and even cockroaches,” she writes in the caption, adding that unfortunately, “I often see run over chameleons as they only rely on their 'camouflage' defence to attempt to save themselves.”

Making an appeal to anyone driving through fields or agricultural areas, Madeleine advises driving carefully “to prevent regretfully running over such an important and beautiful animal.”

Sharing that the chameleon in the photo was carefully handled and placed in a safe area, the nature lover went on to warn others to “refrain from handling chameleons unless necessary as they get easily stressed when doing so.”

Way to go, Madeleine!
