Just next month, Heritage Malta will be opening the archaeological site of San Pawl Milqi to the public in a one-of-a-kind event.
Taking place on 8th October from 10am to 3pm, the special opening will allow adults and children alike to help out the site’s archaeologists with digging and bagging.
Afterwards, from 3pm till 4:30pm, visitors can attend a pre-booked event called ‘Cibvs: Roman Food Experience’.
Here, one can continue living out their Roman fantasy, as a curator will be giving a lecture about the food that Romans consumed.
Attendees will even have the opportunity to sample some typical Roman fare.
The ruins of a Roman Villa lie at the San Pawl Milqi site – the very same villa where Saint Publius – the governor and first bishop of Malta – welcomed Saint Paul when he was shipwrecked in Malta.
Remains of a pagan temple dedicated to the Greek God Apollo were also found on site.
Unfortunately, many of the buildings on site were destroyed during the Arab period due to the sea invasions and attacks that the era brought with it.
General admission for this event costs €3 for adults, seniors and students and will only be available at the door.
Children up to 11 years old and Heritage Malta members will be admitted free of charge.
Additionally, tickets for the Roman food experience cost €25 and can be purchased at any Heritage Malta Museum or site or here.
Heritage Malta has also advised all those who wish to attend to avoid wearing perfume, scented shower products and excessive sunblock as the area is a bee-keeping site.
