Listen up! Malta is about to get its first Mercure hotel & it's looking mighty fine
Malta is set to open the doors to the Island's first Mercure hotel, a renowned international chain with over 5,000 hotels around the world. Situated in St Julian's, the hotel promises 4 star luxury and comfort as well as an unparalleled 360° view thanks to its glorious rooftop pool.
The hotel has been under construction for the past two years and is now nearing closer to its opening date. Originally planned for June, this has been pushed back to September due to the pandemic situation.
Despite this unprecedented difficulty, Accor General Manager Kurt Micallef insists morale is high: "Something very exciting about the hotel is the fact that Malta badly needs a branded 4-star hotel... in fact its been a while since a 4-star franchise has opened," he says. The hotel boasts 113 rooms all 25sqm or larger and furnished with queen size beds, 43 inch TVs and several other amenities. The hotel also has a gym, meeting room, cafe, restaurant and a stunning marble floor at the entrance of the property.
The Mercure brand takes pride in introducing local elements to its hotels, and Kurt reveals this is predominantly done through a number of elements: "The Hotel will have a lot of local characteristics to it, starting from it's reception brand wall, the elements of lace within the bedrooms, the local produce being served and the opportunity for local artists to show off their talent." In fact, local artist Anabel Zammit has already been commissioned to work on the hotel's reception paintings.
Most importantly, it will also be the team who will bring the local warmth and care into the service we will provide."
Being a new hotel in Covid times comes with its fare share of difficulties: "We don’t have reviews and the road ahead is a tough one, but I believe the road ahead is a very exciting one for three reasons; the hotel is beautiful, it's in a perfect location and it's part of Europe's biggest hotel chain." Indeed, the Mercure brand was opening a new hotel every 29 hours pre-Covid.
The hotel is set for a 1st September opening. Will you be among the first to visit?
