Travelling around Malta, either by public transport, on foot or by car, exposes you to a wonder world of Mediterranean beauty, beyond any other. Seeing as the new generations are constantly connected to social platforms, with their smartphones acting as an extension of their right hand, we’ve managed to find the most Instagrammed spots in Malta. Here are a few of the spectacular spots on everyone's horizon.
The Upper Barrakka view
This one is undoubtedly a view that can convert the mass of non-Malta-lovin’ locals or foreigners who are on our shores. One look at the gorgeous blue sea, the beautiful limestone and those fancy ships trickling in and out of the Grand Harbour is enough to make you fall in love.
This door in Mdina
People don’t just casually snap a shot by this particular door; they flock to it and set up a whole scene! The light blue tones of the door juxtaposed with the pretty bougainvillea make for the perfect setting to a medieval shot of excellence.
The pastizzi at Is-Serkin
This is a go-to spot for many a party-goer in the early hours of the morning or late hours of the night - depends on how you view it. There's even a swarm of older men who’ve rightfully claimed their benches, set up a bar tab and made a regular appointment to sit and catch up with their buddies daily.
Bird’s eye view of Riviera Martinique
This might be the one that tips everyone off the edge - sheer natural beauty, right there in front of you and, boy, is it something. The view from the top is magnificent and the view from the bay is just as wonderful - no wonder it’s a top contender on the Gram.
Pineapples at Blue Lagoon
Comino’s Blue Lagoon is an idyllic spot on the Maltese islands which could have its own Insta account - it’s paradise and i,n recent years, that sense of luxury has been elevated even further with an ice-cold pineapple cocktail - surely you’ve seen the photos.
Ta’ Pinu in all its glory
Hop on to Gozo - there’s a church that needs to be filtered and added to your wall. Ta’ Pinu is one of the most photographed churches on the Maltese islands. This beauty stands tall and dominates its space. No doubt this would have made the list!
The Valletta skyline
Although the Sliema promenade lacks charm and character, a quick glance across the sea gives you all the cultural beauty your eyes can handle. The Valletta skyline is, without a doubt, Malta’s number one architectural view.
Just above Popeye’s Village
The view above Popeye’s Village is mostly shot by tourists taking a trip to the north of the island in search of some fun activities. Locals seem to forget the cute rooftops and the fun memories enjoyed as kids in the magical set, which is still open today.
Luzzu loving in Marsaxlokk
You can’t come to Malta on holiday, or live here all your life and not have a shot of a luzzu. It’s like never learning how to swim in the Med. The best spot to get a luzzu shot is definitely Marsaxlokk, but you can find the little fishing boats across the island.
Parliament House all lit up
Evenings in Valletta used to be quite the spectacle, and with the addition of Parliament House the walk through the city has become a rather pleasant and contemporary activity. It might not be the most ‘Maltese’ architectural structure, but it sure looks good lit up at night.
Triton Fountain, from afar
From afar or really close up, the Triton Fountain is magnificent and always has been. The Apap bronze sculpture is a symbol connected to Malta’s heritage and many shots swarm the Gram with the beauty in the background or far distance. And, it always looks stunning.
Needless to say there are tonnes of other destinations that are worthy of the Instagram Hall of Fame, bundles spread across the islands that may in fact deserve their own little feature.
