Insane stuff! Locals share impressive shots of Luqa’s lesser-known Naval Reservoir
Incredible!

When you think you’ve seen it all, Malta whips out another gorgeous gem that leaves us in utter awe. This time, we’re taking a trip to Luqa where the latest uncovered gem has been sitting right under our feet – and quite literally!

Over 100 years ago this naval reservoir came to be which could hold up to 10 million gallons (about 45 million litres) of water. This is said to have been done as a precaution just in case the nearby Dockyard had a fire emergency. And now, it could soon be restored to its glory days.

In recent days, workers and photographers have been sharing teaser photos of the reservoir – which looks like an enormous underground cathedral, if you ask us. The photos are insane, with local photographer Daniel Cilia saying it’s “one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever had the experience to photograph,” admitting that “Malta and Gozo never cease to amaze me.”

In an official post on socials, the Ministry for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development confirmed that the Water Services Corporation “is carrying out maintenance and cleansing works to restore the reservoir for use again!” YAS!

Latest photos of the enormous reservoir were shared by architect Rene Fava, captioning his post with “perks of the job,” and we’ve got to say... we’re a smidge jealous.

Did you know about the naval reservoir?
