With resignation, we accept that eight months, give or take, of warm and hot weather are over. We’re well into autumn and the cooler temperatures, with wind and rain are officially kicking in. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The cooler weather in Malta also heralds some simple joys that cannot be enjoyed (as much) in the hotter seasons.
1. Soak up the sunshine whenever you can
Instead of desperately looking for shade from the scorching sun, you’ll be seeking to enjoy the gentle warmth of the sun on your face. You’ll actually enjoy sitting out at noon without sweat, literally.
2. Indulge in outdoor activities during the day
The summer heat makes hiking, climbing, abseiling and other outdoor activities arduous and thus restricted to the earlier or later hours of the day. Cooler weather means a whole day to enjoy!
3. Go camping, comfortably
No waking up in your tent soaked in sweat at 7am. No flies buzzing around by the dozens. If you’re well prepared for warmth and shelter, camping is a breeze in the shoulder months.
4. Take up a new indoors hobby (for those days stuck inside)
Sometimes (or much of the time), when it’s dark, cold, windy and wet, the last thing you want to do is go outside. Use the time indoors for anything from learning stuff to making stuff.
5. Get creative with your attire
When you do venture out, there are lots of clothes items to choose from (add gloves, legwarmers, hats, etc.) and many more layers to pile them on. Get creative, get stylish!
6. Invite friends over
If nothing beats your onesie when the cooler weather rocks in, invite your friends over instead of going out to meet them. Organise a film or games night - everyone is happy once the entertainment is on.
7. Snuggle on the sofa
Yup. This is when nothing - BUT NOTHING - beats your sofa, blanket and a good book. Ideally, you’ll have a purring cat on your lap or a fluffy dog to snuggle up to. Unlike human beings, they don’t encroach on your solitary time when that's all you want.
See! Some great things to look forward to. It’s not that bad, is it?
