If you’ve got any outdoor plans this weekend, it might be wise to put them on hold – the Maltese islands are expected to be hit by a downpour of torrential rains over the next few days.

According to weather experts, Malta’s upcoming spate of bad weather will be caused by atmospheric instability bang in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.

Weather reports predict that the rain will be accompanied by blasts of thunder and streaks of lightning.

Meteorologists have warned that it’s a good idea to avoid low-lying areas, or those that are renowned for flooding. So Birkirkara or Msida residents, better phone up your friends in Dingli or Rabat and see if you can spend the weekend at theirs.

That’s right – the whole weekend. The weather warning comes into play from today (Friday 12thOctober) and extends until Sunday (14th October) at noon.

Oh, and it could be extended even further. Yikes.
