Heads up travellers! KM Malta Airlines stops Catania flights outside peak summer months
Flights will be back in the summer months.
Bad news for anyone who likes getting a quick flight to Sicily in the off-peak season – KM Malta Airlines has decided to scrap its Catania flights during winter. This move is down to the tough competition from budget airlines and ferry services, making it impossible to keep the route profitable.
According to the airline, cheap fares driven by low-cost carriers and alternative transport options have made it hard to justify running the flights, as confirmed by MaltaToday. Weekends see the highest demand, with travellers heading to Catania on Friday or Saturday and returning late in the weekend. But while flights one way might be packed, the return trips often have too many empty seats.
But don’t worry – Catania isn’t gone for good! KM Malta Airlines plans to bring back the route between July and September 2026, when summer travel peaks.
Will you be missing these flights?
