Happy St Paddy's! Here are 5 ways you can celebrate from home this year
Who says you can't have fun while keeping safe?

St Patrick's Day in Malta is an eerily quiet affair this year. With many choosing to stick indoors, there are several ways how you can celebrate the day without endangering (or being endangered by) others.

1. Host a balcony party

If you've been living in your street for months (or years) and never befriended the neighbours, now's your chance! Head out to the balcony, put on some music and enjoy a chat and a beer with the tenant across the street. With people eager for entertainment, it won't be long till other neighbours join and who knows, it may even turn out the be the next partying trend: balcony bashes!

2. Keep calm & drink beer (and watch a soppy Irish film)

Granted, you may not be able to join the Irish in their celebrations today but you can still get your fix by watching a soppy film like PS I love you. Gerald Butler's sexy accent will surely keep you going till next year's St Paddy's Day!

3. Get some pub grub delivered

Restaurants are not allowed to welcome patrons into their premises for the time being but thankfully food delivery services are here to save the day. Why not order a delicious snack or dinner from a local pub and dig in from the comfort of your home? Given the special occasion, they may even deliver beer to your front door!

4. Organise a Skype party with your friends

If you're missing your friends' antics, this could be the solution for you. Get unto Skype and invite your mates to an online party. Communication may be a wee bit difficult but it promises to be as raucous as real-life parties.

5. Have a beer with your neighbour through the garden wall

While you may not be able to physically hop over to visit your neighbour, you can still toss a beer over the garden wall and have a chat. You don't need a lot of people to keep entertained, one good-humoured voice (and some beer) can easily turn into a chill and memorable hangout.

BONUS: Transform into a leprechaun

Here's a challenge for the creative gurus out there. Leprechauns - Irish fairies with ginger beards and green suits - are a popular icon for the holiday. Why not use the extra time on your hands to get your makeup brushes and sartorial skills out and turn yourself (or your dad or partner) into a leprechaun?

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
