Get out there! 6 ways to be more outdoorsy this winter in Malta
Get those wellies on!

Nicole Parnis

We’ve all thought up some New Year's resolutions or other, but there’s one aim that should be on everyone’s list, and that’s to surround ourselves in nature more. It's great for the mind, body and soul after all!

Luckily, Malta is teeming with things to do out in the open— you just have to know where to look. From nature parks to temple visits, here’s just a little inspo from GuideMeMalta to spruce up your New Year. Happy wanderlust!

1. Get sporty

One of the best ways to get more outdoorsy is to pick up a sport! Beach volleyball is all the rage at Golden Sands beach, and just close by you can try your hand at horseriding, where they coordinate sessions suitable for beginners along the picturesque coast.

2. Beachy keen

There’s nothing stopping you from organising a picnic or beach barbecue with your mates in the colder months, just like you do in the summer! Why not round up the gang decked with blankets and wooly scarves and toast some marshmallows to the sounds of the waves lapping against the sand.

3. Woodland walks

Buskett is Malta’s largest woodland area, and we don’t visit it enough! Go back to your childhood school trips and put on a pair of Wellington boots and old jeans and prepare to explore and get muddy. Remember to pack a ball, and look out for tadpoles and birds. You could even fit in a cheeky winter walk's mini photoshoot!

4. Temple run

One of the reasons tourists flock to Malta is for our insane amount of historical sites, and it’s worth checking in with them from time to time! How about a walking trip to the Victoria Lines or Hagar Qim for a weekend day out with a difference? It’s a great way to practice mindfulness in 2020. Just make sure to wrap up warm as it gets chilly out in the open!

5. Camp to it!

One of the best ways to get out there is to really get stuck right in, and there’s no way to better do so than camping out under the stars. Book your session well in advance with the appropriate organisations where need be, and pack all the blankets, snacks and tea-lights to keep you going for a solid two nights of good old-fashioned fun in nature!

6. Nature park weekends

Have you ever been to a nature park in Malta? No? Well, you’re missing out! Il-Majjistral Park is a nature reserve in the north-west of Malta where you can observe all sorts of wildlife - great for a day out with the kiddies! Why not give your family member or good friend a Saturday break and offer to take their little nippers out for an afternoon? You're bound to go down in their good books this year!
