The recent fireworks factory explosion has forced some changes to the upcoming Fontana festa, which will be celebrated on 14th June.

Many of the fireworks traditionally used during Fontana’s Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus were produced at the Lourdes Fireworks Factory in Magħtab, which was rocked by a major explosion on Monday morning.

The parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus has therefore announced that the aerial and ground fireworks that were set to take place during the ħruġ min-niċċa celebration and the final days of the feast will no longer place.

However, some aerial fireworks will still take place during the procession on the actual festa day.

The procession on the eve of the festa has also been pushed back by half an hour to 9:30pm, and it will end with a feature on the church parvis.

“We are very grateful to the Sacred Heart of Jesus that no one was hurt in the incident,” the parish said.

“We remain in solidarity with the members of the Għaqda tan-Nar Fontana and everyone who has been affected."
