Exciting news! Malta’s NGO Żibel takes major step toward full recycling setup with new plastic shredder
Turning beach waste to brand-new products!

Local environmental NGO Żibel has announced a major leap forward in its mission to tackle plastic pollution across Malta’s coastline. Thanks to the support of The Alfred Mizzi Foundation, Żibel has acquired a brand-new plastic shredding machine – a key piece of equipment that brings the organisation one step closer to completing its full recycling setup.

Since its founding, Żibel has been tirelessly cleaning up Malta’s shores, collecting tonnes of plastic waste from beaches, coves, and the seabed. Now, with this new shredder, all that collected plastic can finally begin its transformation journey.

The machine will process marine plastic into small flakes – the essential first step in the recycling process. From there, Żibel’s future setup will wash, dry, and remould the material into brand-new, usable items, giving discarded plastic a second life instead of ending up in landfill or the sea.

Żibel expressed heartfelt gratitude to The Alfred Mizzi Foundation, which has been supporting the NGO’s environmental initiatives since 2019. This latest collaboration marks a tangible milestone in their shared goal of creating a cleaner, more sustainable Malta.

Well done, Żibel!
