Four people. Two women and two men. Two from Malta and two from abroad. From their ’30-s and their early and late ’40-s.

What do they have all in common?

A tiny little island, the love of art and the dreams.

The dreams are like life they can be shiny colourful as a Summer day at the seaside, melancholic as a sleepy cat looking out of the window or even frightening as the darkest moment of history.

Or just colours light vibrant lines or flowing plasmas without any real shapes and forms.

John Mayl, Eva Fekete, Kaissa Traore and Matthew Micallef.

The organizer of this exhibition is John Mayl, sculptor who is well-known for his replicas of the goddess of fertility at the Hagar Qim temples. This time he brings us some of his paintings. Only the strangest dreams can scare us with innocent pictures. As John can show us the darkest time with a starry night and a poppy field on his canvas called Arbeit macht frei.

The photographer, Eva Fekete is the odd one out among the painters. Can we find the images of our sleeping hours in the real world? How can the camera shows us the imaginary instead of the reality?

The essence of photography, the essence of life and pictures is light. On an other series of Eva Fekete one can meet photograms where the light itself painted the pictures without any intermediary tools, without cameras and lenses.

Kaissa Traore came from Guinea, West Africa. She has travelled to the five continents, her art works influenced by the tales of Niagassola, a small village in Guinea, the music of the Mandingo people, the colours of the rainforest of Borneo and the paintings of the Aboriginal women who invited her to join them under the trees of Alice Springs. Isn’t it a daydream to live all of the coulurs, fragrance, sound of these places?

Matthew Micallef has a special liaison with his dreams. He often wakes up in the middle of the night to draw them on a piece of paper which waiting on the bedside table for these moments. Then comes the daytime when the small sketches, the words from the notebook turn into vibrant, rolling, full of life touches of the series titled Chaos & Creation.
