Do you remember? Check out this old photo showing Mġarr Harbour before ferries and terminals
Crossings were carried out using traditional luzzu boats.

A nostalgic photo shared by the Department of Information offers a glimpse into how travel between the Maltese islands once took place. The throwback image shows Mġarr Harbour many decades ago, long before the modern ferry terminal and large passenger vessels we know today.

According to the caption accompanying the post, the photo dates back to a time when the crossing between Malta and Gozo was carried out using traditional luzzu boats. These colourful wooden fishing vessels, now widely recognised as a symbol of Maltese maritime heritage, were once an essential means of transport for people travelling between the islands.

The image highlights how dramatically the harbour has changed over the years. Today, thousands of passengers and vehicles travel daily between Gozo and Malta using modern ferries.

The historic photo serves as a reminder of a simpler era when sea crossings were slower, smaller, and deeply rooted in local maritime tradition.

Do you remember Mġarr Harbour looking this peaceful?
