This weekend will see the first ever edition of Salt Fest (Festa Melh in Maltese) at the salt pans in Salini, to celebrate the opening of the new Salt Museum at the Nature Reserve. The event will take place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July between 4pm and 8pm, following the official opening of the Salina Salt Museum this Friday.
The Salt Fest will feature workshops delving into Neolithic crafts, interactive games, stands selling handmade crafts, and food stalls to ensure all visitors have their appetites kept satisfied throughout the event. Painting of handmade clay pots will also take place at the event, in a workshop organised by 'Gmiel bl-Idejn'.
The debut book of author Denise Muscat, titled ‘Meta r-ramel sar blu’ (When the sand became blue) will also be presented at the event, with reading sessions and related activities for children throughout the duration of the Salt Fest. The book is set on Gozo’s sandy beach, Ramla l-Hamra, and tells a touching story of two loggerhead turtles and the impact of humans on nature.
During the Salt Fest, which is being hosted by BirdLife Malta, entry to the new Salina Salt Museum will be free, granting visitors the perfect opportunity to experience the rich history of salt harvesting in Malta.
