Beauty restored! The Madonna of Carafa returns to St John’s Co-Cathedral after meticulous restoration
After months of careful restoration, the Madonna of Carafa is now ready to be admired up close, shining once again in all her former splendour at the Chapel of Italy in St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.
Visitors and worshippers alike are invited to experience this iconic devotional masterpiece in a rare, up-close exhibition, currently on display till Friday 5th December. The display includes the silver riza, a beautiful element that is created to protect the icon, while highlighting the artistry and devotion dedicated to preserving these treasures for generations.
This exhibition is a unique opportunity to appreciate both the historical and spiritual significance of the Madonna before her ceremonial crowning at the High Altar on 5th December, followed by her relocation to the Chapel of the Madonna of Philermos on 10th December.
