Valletta Glass

Valletta Glass is a sanctuary where artisan hand-blown glass treasures have been illuminating the art world for over four decades. Steeped in centuries of traditional craftsmanship, the products at Valletta Glass range from delicate ornaments to elegant tableware and eternal bouquets, each a testament to the fusion of time-honoured techniques with contemporary aesthetics.

Preserving a Timeless Tradition

Valletta Glass's journey began in 1979, when Mr. Paul Said embarked on a mission to preserve the legacy of Maltese glass-blowing. Over the years, the company has become synonymous with upholding this ancient tradition and promoting traditional Maltese craftsmanship worldwide.

"Our mission is to actively uphold the trade of Malta glass-blowing and promote traditional Maltese craftsmanship globally. Our craftsmen are the lifeblood of our operation, contributing significantly to the survival and continuity of this ancient tradition of handmade art." Mr Said, who is still very much involved in the company, says that at Valletta Glass they still “make glass in the old-fashioned way, using many techniques and tools that are essentially unchanged from those used a couple of decades ago. Manufacturing glass has been a labour of love for me since my childhood and now I am able to share that love of glass by providing new and unique pieces to our customers.”

Maltese glass, renowned for its colourful hues, is delicately swirled together in the glass-blowing process, creating individual designs. Every piece in the workshop is shaped and blown by hand, using the traditional technique of blowing through a blowpipe and using tools to alter the shape and design—all while the molten glass remains scorching hot. From tableware to jewellery and decorative items, each piece is imbued with the warmth and craftsmanship that has become synonymous with Valletta Glass.

With outlets in Valletta and Mdina, and a factory-shop at the artisan village in Ta’ Qali, customers and visitors can see the mesmerising glass-blowing process for themselves, making their purchase of any Valletta Glass product a little more personal.

A Symphony of Colours and Design

While the company manufactures a diverse range of items; ever-lasting, handmade glass flowers lie at the heart of its collection. Each piece is delicate and unique, meticulously crafted in the traditional glass-making workshop. This is a skill passed down and perfected by local artisans; where petals and leaves are formed around a central stem by adding tweaks, pinches of pressure and flourishes to the white-hot malleable rods of glass as they twist at the tip of a blower’s pipe.

Gazing upon these creations, will reveal vibrant hues interweaving and creating a symphony of colours. The intricate details, painstakingly etched by master artists, capture the essence of blossoming springtime, transforming each flower into a symbol of eternal affection.

These unique creations offer a curated selection of one-of-a-kind gifts and collectibles. Flowers in particular, have always been associated with love and affection and make for a very alternative gesture on a day that is filled with over-commercialised cliches.
