A cleaner Malta! Żibel wraps up the year in style with festive clean-up and 1.2 tonnes of waste collected
On a bright Saturday morning, 80 dedicated Żibel volunteers came together for the organisation’s final clean-up of the year - and they certainly went out in style!
The event had a festive twist, with the appearance of ‘Żibel-Claus’, also known as Migel, the group’s Dive Coordinator, spreading Christmas cheer both on land and underwater. Adding to the spirit was a creative tyre Christmas tree, crafted from tyres collected during previous clean-ups.
Divers, land volunteers and litter sorters worked side by side, giving up their weekend to protect Malta’s marine and coastal environment. Thanks to their combined effort, an impressive total of 1,275 kilograms of waste was collected in just one morning. From underwater debris to shoreline litter, every bag filled represented time, effort and commitment to making a real difference.
The organisers extended heartfelt thanks to every participant for their dedication, teamwork and infectious positivity, all enjoyed under clear skies and warm winter sunshine. The sense of community didn’t end with the clean-up either, as Beachaven generously treated the entire Żibel Tribe to well-earned pizzas. Now that’s the perfect way to wrap up a job well done!
As the final bags were weighed and spirits remained high, one message was clear: Żibel is stepping into the new year stronger than ever.
Here’s to more clean seas, united communities and meaningful action in 2026.
Thank you for all your hard work!
