A blast from the past! Photo shows Marsalforn’s Menqa back in 1910
The menqa is a small port were many fisherman docked their boats.

A photo shared by Lawrence Marsh to the Facebook group ‘Old photos of Malta’ shows a very different Marsalforn in Gozo from the one many alive today remember.

The photo was taken in 1910 and depicts the area known as ‘il-Menqa’, the place where many fishermen used to dock their boats.

Although much has changed since then infrastructure wise, many fishermen still dock their boats in the same area to this very day.

The buildings in the background are however not quite the same. Today in the same area one can find a hotel alongside a variety of different restaurants overlooking the small fishing port.

There even seems to be a small villa on the left side standing on its own. Someone in the comment section pointed out that this is a Pantalleresco house.

Can you imagine Marsalforn’s menqa looking like this today?
