A good pizza is a matter of taste, and while (thankfully) there are loads of great pizzerias in Malta, these 11 are among what we deem to be the very best. Here are our top pizza spots across the islands, in no particular order.

1. Mandraggio, Valletta

You can try the delicious pizza from Vecchia Taranto at Smart City or in Valletta. It is open for lunch and dinner and the Smart City branch in Kalkara offers takeaway and outdoor seating. The secret here is that the dough is hand prepared and allowed to sit for 72 hours.

6. Il Vecchio Forno, Mosta

Here's a wine bar set in an old village bakery that serves a wonderfully authentic wood-oven pizza. It is open for wine and dinner and offers takeaway. Booking is recommended at Il Vecchio Forno as it is small and extremely popular.

Made in Sud Pizzeria is located in Bugibba. It serves a traditional Neopolitan pizza and is open for dinner. The Four Seasons pizza actually has four divisions with different flavours!

In Gozo, we find delicious pizza in the capital, Victoria, at Ottavo Senso. It also offers outdoor seating and takeaway. The flour is imported from Italy, the dough is left to rise for at least 48 hours and the pizza is cooked in a wood-fire oven.
