‘Living for Eternity’: Discover the world of Ancient Egypt at Valletta’s National Museum of Archaeology

Ancient Egypt’s fascination extends far beyond its iconic pyramids, pharaohs and hieroglyphs, with a rich history shaped by religious beliefs, everyday life and the enduring quest for eternal life.

These themes take centre stage in Living for Eternity – The Ancient Egyptians, an exhibition currently on display at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta. Organised through a collaboration between Heritage Malta and the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden, the Netherlands, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the civilisation from a fresh perspective.

Moving beyond the familiar symbols of ancient Egypt, the exhibition offers an opportunity to discover the ideas, customs and beliefs that influenced Egyptian society. Particular attention is given to the significance of death and the afterlife, which played a central role in how the ancient Egyptians understood existence and prepared for eternity.

Through this exploration, visitors can gain a deeper appreciation of a civilisation whose influence continues to resonate thousands of years later.

Living for Eternity – The Ancient Egyptians runs until 16 May 2027, with admission included in the National Museum of Archaeology experience.

The museum is located in Valletta and is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00, with last admission at 16:30. Visitors are encouraged to check the official website for the latest opening hours before planning their visit.
